If a bathroom remodel is in your future, you are probably weighing your countertop material options, pinning pictures of bathtubs, and dreaming about geometric tile designs. While these are exciting and fun features to consider for your new bathroom, don’t forget there are things you can do to make your bathroom more eco-friendly. Of course, much of bathroom energy waste can be resolved with water conservation options, but our team at Indy Renovation has added a few other ways you can make your bathroom better for the environment.

Eco-Friendly Bathroom

Conserve Water

Conserving water is a great way to lower water bills and help the planet. We recommend installing low-flow fixtures for your toilets, faucets, and showers. There are also several things you can do to conserve water in your everyday life. Start by making sure none of your fixtures are leaking. It may seem like only a small amount of wasted water, but it adds up quickly. Also, choose to take quick showers instead of baths, or skip the shower altogether if you don’t really need one. Finally, while you’re waiting for your shower water to get hot, don’t let that water go down the drain! Instead, use it to fill up a bucket to use for other purposes around your house, such as watering plants.

Conserve Energy

An energy-efficient water heater can go a long way in conserving energy in your home. Try to find a tankless option, and check Consumer Reports to find the best eco-friendly model. If replacing your water heater isn’t an option, turn your current water heater down from 140 degrees to 120 degrees to save energy. Finally, replace all of your light bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs. See, saving energy is easier than you thought!

Select Green Materials

Virtually everything you buy these days has a “green” option. The expert design team at Indy Renovation can help you make environmentally friendly decisions when choosing your bathroom materials. It may take a little more effort and research, but you’ll be glad you put in the time when you’re able to select countertops, tile, flooring, vanities, and other finishes that are good for the planet.
