When you decide to tackle bathroom remodeling, you may not realize just how many small decisions you’ll have to make along the way. Flooring is just one of those decisions that are often more complex than you anticipate. Many people opt for tile flooring when remodeling for many reasons including water resistance and durability. However, even choosing a floor tile isn’t as straightforward as you might expect.

floor tile options

We at Indy Renovation are experts in all things bathroom remodeling and want to help you sift through your tile flooring options so you can decide what will work and look best in your home. So, without further ado, here are a few of the most popular tile flooring options.

Ceramic

The primary ingredient in ceramic tile is clay that has been specially prepared and formed in a mold. Non-porcelain ceramic tile is a cheap tile flooring option, making it a popular option for many Indianapolis homeowners. However, it’s important to note that ceramic tile is less durable than its porcelain ceramic tile counterpart.

Stone

Looking for a beautiful, earthy tile choice? Natural stone tiles are cut down to size from larger pieces of stone. Common stone tile types include granite, marble, limestone, slate, and travertine. Each type of stone tile flooring has individual characteristics that make it a unique custom tile option. However, it’s important to note that natural stone tiles can be more costly than other tile types.

Porcelain

Many Indianapolis homeowners choose porcelain tile flooring because of its durability. Porcelain tiles are a mixture of ceramic and other minerals, and you can choose porcelain tiles in a variety of finishes (glazed or unglazed, matte, high-gloss, etc.). While porcelain tile installation isn’t easy, especially for those inexperienced with tile flooring, its ability to resist stains and water absorption may be worth the effort and extra dollar signs associated with labor—especially for areas prone to spills.
