When you need pipe repair or a water heater installation, you don’t want to delay hiring a plumber. However, you also don’t want to rush it and make a mistake. Therefore, we at Indy Renovation want to pass along a few questions you should ask any new or prospective plumber.

1. Are you a licensed plumber?

Don’t make the assumption that every plumber in the directory is actually a licensed plumber. Go ahead and ask the question. Licensure is important, because it means the plumber is held to state and local plumbing standards.

2. Do you charge hourly or by the job?

This question is important so you know what to expect financially. You want to know whether your plumber has hidden labor costs and whether the quote includes all materials.

3. What are your payment requirements?

Some plumbers ask for a down payment up front or may ask for incremental payments as the job progresses. However, never agree to hire a plumber who asks for 100% of the payment up front.

4. Who is responsible for cleaning up the mess?

A quality plumber tries to minimize the mess and will take responsibility for cleaning up all work-related debris. Make sure that the quote you receive does include cleanup and that they don’t charge extra.

5. Do you have warranties or guarantees?

If something breaks or the pipe repair doesn’t last, you want to know whether the plumber’s work is guaranteed and whether he or she will repair the defect. Some plumbers guarantee their work for a certain term (such as two years) or will promise free repairs.

If you’re looking for a plumber in the Indianapolis area, contact Indy Renovation at (317) 375-4464. We’ll gladly answer all your questions and can give you a free quote for anything from pipe repair, water heaters, sump pumps, and more.
