How to Hire a Bathroom Remodeler

Congrats! You’re ready to remodel your bathroom. For months (maybe longer) you’ve been dreaming about what that finished product would look like. Now you want to make it happen. However, first you have to find the right bathroom remodeler. Therefore, put us (and other contractors) to the test with these hiring tips.

1. Gather recommendations.

Ask friends, family, and co-workers to refer a bathroom remodeler. Give special attention to those who have firsthand experience with that contractor and share rave reviews. If you don’t get good recommendations, you can also check service review websites or that bathroom remodeler’s customer testimonials.

2. Check credentials.

You love your cousin Fred, but you aren’t sure whether you’re ready to turn over your remodel to a self-proclaimed handyman—even if he is family. And that’s probably a wise choice. You want a contractor who has experience and the credentials so you can get the job done right the first time. So always ask the remodeler for credentials and licensing information.

3. See previous work.

See whether you can view the contractor’s completed projects, either in person or through an online gallery. Make sure the remodeling work is up to par with your vision for your new bathroom.

4. Get an estimate.

Always ask for an in-person estimate for two reasons: 1) You get to gauge the contractor’s professionalism and ability to communicate, and 2) You can compare that remodeler’s rate with other companies. Also, consider this meeting your opportunity to ask any and every question so you can feel confident making your decision.

Once you’ve gone through these basic steps, you can then narrow down which bathroom remodeler is right for you. Go with your instincts, and choose the contractor with whom you feel most comfortable.
