When you’re ready to sell your home, you don’t want it to be on the market longer than necessary. You want to sell it, collect the equity, and move on, especially if you’re in the process of moving out of town or purchasing a new home. At Indy Renovation, we’ve put together this list of a few things you can be doing to remove barriers between your Indianapolis-area home and potential buyers.
Your first step in prepping a home to sell is to clear out all the nonessentials. Clear items off shelves, out of closets, and off the floor that can make your space look smaller and be distracting to potential buyers. Minimalism is key when it comes to selling a home.
A dirty house can distract buyers from seeing its potential. It may also cause concern for how well the property was maintained. Therefore, before you list, clean the home thoroughly, and make sure everything is picked up and organized.
Upgraded kitchens and bathrooms catch the eye of potential buyers. So if your kitchen or bathroom is out of date, consider making a few upgrades like countertops, custom tile, flooring, cabinet hardware, lighting, or even just wall paint can make a huge difference.
If you don’t want the home inspection to hold you up, go ahead and find a company that will do a pre-listing inspection. That way, you can get ahead of repairs and present buyers with the inspection report and repairs that were made to help sweeten the deal and move things along. Note that major repairs (roof, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) should probably be handled by a licensed professional to make sure the job is done right the first time.
Before you hold that open house, walk through your home with fresh eyes. Look for things that might bother you as a buyer, and do your best to eliminate these concerns or address them with your selling agent.
If you need a bathroom remodeler or plumber to help get your home in selling condition, contact Indy Renovation at (317) 375-4464. We can give you a free estimate and design consultation to help you maximize your upgrades and get a good return on your remodeling investment.
