3 Tips to Keep Your Basement Dry

Basements are a luxury. The additional space can be used for more living, storage, home gym, office, or anything else your heart desires. One common problem with basements, however, is that they tend to have leaks. The last thing you want in your basement is a flood. In this article, the team at Indy Renovation will cover three tips to keep your basement dry.

Route and Clean Your Gutters

One of the most important tips for water management on your property is properly maintained and routed gutters. Your gutters are meant to protect your home and foundation by routing water away from the structure. If you notice any standing water close to your house, call an expert to help you re-route everything correctly. Next, it is very important that you keep your gutters clean and free of blockages. Even if everything is routed in the right direction, a clogged gutter will still result in water ending up where you don’t want it.

Keep Basement Sealed

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we receive so much rain that it’s not possible to keep it away from our homes completely. That’s why the second tip is to keep your basement properly sealed. Make sure all of your weather strips and caulking around doors and windows are in good shape. We highly recommend checking those areas at least once a year to be safe.

Install a Sump Pump

Lastly, a sump pump installation is your best line of defense in removing water from your basement and keeping it dry. Our team of plumbers can help you decide which type of pump is best for your situation and whether or not you may need a backup pump. It’s better to make those types of investments today than pay for major water damage in the future.

Indy Renovation is ready to help you with sump pumps, water heaters, water pumps, and pipe repair. You can contact us today at (317) 375-4464 to schedule a consultation.
